Below are the recommended internet networking configuration options for your FyreTV
Boxxx. If you do not have an internet connection next to your TV or
have received a FyreTV Boxxx without WIFI capabilities either because
they have not been released or you are a Master-BETA tester please
refer to the following for a workaround... powerline adapter or using your computer to deliver a hard line connection or consider using a wireless bridge adapter to bring a hard-line Ethernet connection to your FyreTV Boxxx.
On the FyreTV Forum much more information can be found regarding networking issues, the major networking issues had by most users regarding the modem > router > set-top-box configuration have been related to a port issue.

The
majority of issues plaguing the FyreTV customer stem from the customer’s
network setup and specific ports not being open on their router. The following
is a list of troubleshooting steps to take before contacting
customer support. The
User Interface is cached on the machine; just because you can navigate the User
Interface doesn’t mean that you can view streaming content. If you are able to
navigate the User Interface and see the thumbnails of individual scenes but not
able to view the actual movie you might not have all of the correct ports open
on your router.
Issues
-
- You receive
“Warning error – server time out” when trying to access the User Interface
-
- I can
navigate the User Interface but I cannot view streaming content
-
- Each time
I try to view content the screen goes black
Note: BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE LASTEST FIRMWARE UPDATES FOR YOUR ROUTER. NONE
OF THE STEPS BELOW WILL CORRECT YOUR ISSUE IF YOU HAVE NOT UPDATED YOUR ROUTER’S
FIRMWARE.
Troubleshooting
a) Obtaining an IP address - Cable
The
majority of issues relating to IP addresses not able to be found by the
FyreTV Boxxx is being had by users with Cable modems. If you are not
receiving an IP address or are receiving a 169.xxx.xxx.xx address then your
FyreTV Boxxx is not configuring itself properly.
Proceed
to the "ENTER Pin" screen on the User Interface > "network
configurations" > leave the "Automatic" (DHCP) checked >
hit apply. If
this option corrects the issue you will receive a "DCHP configuration has
been set successfully" message. If this does not work proceed to the
following steps.
1)
Remove the power from the Cable modem and or the router if present and leave everything
unplugged for 5 seconds
2) Remove the Ethernet cable and power cord from the back of the FyreTV Boxxx
3) Plug in the Cable modem and allow it to reconfigure itself (wait for modem
to reconfigure before proceeding to step 4 if necessary)
4) Plug in the router if present and allow it to reconfigure itself
5) Plug the Ethernet cable into the back of the FyreTV Boxxx
6) Plug the power cord into the back of the FyreTV Boxxx, wait 5 seconds and
turn on the FyreTV Boxxx
7)
Proceed to the "network configuration" option on the Enter PIN screen
> keep the "automatic (DHCP)" option checked > hit the
"apply" button to reconfigure the network settings, if this option
corrects the issue you will receive a "DCHP configuration has been set
successfully" message. If this does not work proceed to check that the
following ports are open on your router. (see below)
b) Reconfiguring Your Network Settings –
DSL
First
proceed to the "network configuration" option on the Enter PIN screen
> keep the "automatic (DHCP)" option checked > hit the
"apply" button to reconfigure the network settings, if this option
corrects the issue you will receive a "DCHP configuration has been set
successfully" message. If this does not work proceed to the following
steps.
1) Remove the power from the DSL and or the router if present and leave everything
unplugged for 5 seconds
2) Remove the Ethernet cable and power cord from the back of the FyreTV Boxxx
3) Plug in the modem and allow it to reconfigure itself (wait for modem to
reconfigure before proceeding to step 4 if necessary)
(see below)
c) PORT LIST
In
order for the system to work properly we need to have outbound connections from
the following ports:
TCP:
8181, 8182, 8183, 554, 12697, 21
UDP:
123
Outbound
traffic is usually opened on home routers. If you do not know how to open the
needed ports please consult with your router’s tech support.
d) STRENGTH OF WIFI NETWORK
If
using a game / WIFI router to create a wireless network to run a hard line Ethernet
cable to the FyreTV Boxxx be sure to check your network strength. Using a lap
top computer, turn off the wireless network, plug the game / WIFI router into
the Ethernet port of the laptop and check the signal strength of your WIFI
network. It might be necessary to relocate your wireless router to an
unobstructed or higher location.
Note:
we have had reports of some users who placed their game / WIFI routers inside
their entertainment cabinet not being able to receive smooth content playback
or an abundance of server timeouts.
